Our Approach

We follow a comprehensive assessment-and collaborative, enquiry-based approach to clearly understand your current risk indicators and resilience factors.  Assessment may include a qEEG (brain map), when required. Traditional assessment such as questionnaires, interviews and standardized tests are used to identify your unique strengths and areas of concern. We seek to understand your neurocognitive status and other lifestyle and biopsychosocial factors influencing your mental health and overall well-being.

Generally, the first stage of the assessment involves a series of meetings followed by evaluation metrics that encompass a broad range of potentially impactful variables.  Identified variables are then collaboratively translated into targeted goals.

The following are examples of the potential variables to consider:

  • Early life history

  • Genetic and epigenetic factors

  • Family history and health

  • Interpersonal, lifestyle (self-care: nutrition, exercise, social connection, stress (pain, financial, employment, relational and physical well-being), exposure to environmental pollutants, chronic pain, inflammation and infectious viruses including COVID and other potential toxins such as mold, chemical or metal toxins)

  • Concussion, brain injury and other brain insults.

  • Parent/child/family function

  • Behavioural challenges

  • Cognitive health

  • Physical, spiritual, emotional and psychological health

  • Quantitative Electroenchalogram (qEEG) to examine current metrics of brain function (raw data, activity, networks, efficiency)

  • Chronic pain

  • Sleep challenges

  • Social Network

  • Financial Health

  • Aging and other life transitions

Our counsellors make use of traditional therapies and may also incorporate evidence-based non-invasive neurotherapies (neurostimulation, photobiomodulation, neurowearables and neurofeedback) to help you manage challenges with:

  • Mental health (anxiety, depression, OCD, complex trauma, PTSD)

  • Energy levels

  • Employment/return to work/adjustment

  • Concussion, mild to moderate brain injury

  • Challenges with learning (ADHD, memory, executive, language issues)

  • Cognitive decline

  • Life transitions (adjustment to adult life, separation, divorce, aging)

Over the years, we have realized that a combination of approaches serves our goal of understanding the whole person and in turn, can enhance an individual’s ability to thrive in life! For more information, please contact us at the Neurolounge.
